Rainwater harvesting projects in Tanzania

Improving rural livelihoods by rainwater harvesting in the lowlands of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tanzania (2006-2011 Phase I and II)

The project works with six farmer groups, this is 43 group members and their families (about 260 people in total). These groups are located in two villages, Makaa and Matala. 

 

Total budget US$ 113,500: US$ 92,500 from McKnight Foundation. Local contribution from the farmer groups US$ 13,750. 

Improving livelihoods and environment by rainwater harvesting in Mwanga, Tanzania (2009-2011, Phase I)

Local partner: Mwanga District Council

The project assists 127 families in 15 farmer groups (about 762 persons in total) in five villages in Mwanga, Mgagao, Kiruru Ibwe Ijewa, Lembeni, Kisangiro-Mforo and Kiruru Lwami. 

 

Total budget  €70,560:

- By the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland €56,966. 

- Liana (NGO) supporting members and Vantaan Energia a total of €5030

- Local contribution from the farmer groups for tank building and drip kits €3623

- Liana voluntary work worth €5030
